Hike to Termination Point

Leaving White Sands beach to head to Termination Point.
Made it to Termination Point
The village of Ouzinkie can be seen in the distance.

Larissa and I, relaxing on the point. What a view!

Hiking to Heitman Lake

Bells Flats to downtown from the Heitman Lake trail
It was a perfect day for a hike. Gorgeous, not a cloud in the sky, and just enough breeze to cool us off.
Fun with pushki sticks
The lake was still frozen, but the sun beating down made laying out on the mountainside so relaxing.
Love this one!

My New Apartment

Just moved into an apartment with a lakeside view. A mirror that stretches the full length of the wall, combined with lots of windows make the living room and kitchen feel spacious, bright, and a whole lot bigger than it is.
My landlords park a float plane out front that they use to take people out to their lodge out at Saltry.
The colors are...interesting, to say the least. Particularly the green carpet in the kitchen. :-)

First Boat Ride of the Year

Exploration of Kodiak

Took a drive out to explore Chiniak. We headed up to look at a bunker on the hill, and I couldn't resist this shot. It's become one of my all time faves.

The cattle thought Scott was rather interesting.

Across the bridge to Near Island where our other boat harbor and float plane docks are.

Also on Near Island is North End park. An easy little walk down through the woods to overlook the channel.

Spring is in the Air!

With the sun shining and the temps being in the high 50's, I found myself rather distracted from packing yesterday. So, instead, I headed out to enjoy the day with some friends. It was an ideal day for a hike, and we completed the Termination Point hike in about 2 1/2 hrs. We came back, and I connected with some other friends for halibut dinner and a walk through North End park. Ah, beautiful! The birds were chirping, the buds blossoming, and signs of spring are everywhere. When it's not a torrential downpour, there's not a place I can think of that I'd rather be than heading out of town on Kodiak Island. It's a little piece of paradise!

New Apartment

I was blessed to have a great apartment for the last few months, but the time has come to move, since I need to be out of the one I'm in now by May 15. I've been looking around for awhile, but it's ridiculous just how much people can get away with charging here! Most places are at least $1000/mo for a small 1 bedroom economy apt. Craziness! However, I finally found one that will be perfect for me, and I signed the lease yesterday. I'm so excited! My landlords are wonderful, and old friends of my family. The apartment is overlooking the lake, and has lots of windows and plenty of room. Another bonus is that it's right down the road from the apartment I'm in now, so moving won't be too difficult. I'm looking forward to walking to work this summer. Now I just have to get the moving done, which is NOT one of my favorite activities.
